Custom Home Builders in Riverside, CA

Designed around your life. Built on time. Priced before we break ground.

What is a Custom Home?
A custom home is the largest project most families will ever build. It deserves a contractor who treats your money like their own and your home like the place your grandkids will visit. JJ Builders has been designing and building custom homes across Riverside and the Inland Empire for 18 years. Every project is led personally by Joshua Phillips, the owner — so the person walking you through your plans on day one is the same person walking you through your finished home on closing day.

Why families building in Riverside hire JJ Builders
Building a custom home is the slowest, most expensive, most emotionally exhausting project most families will ever take on. The hardest part isn't construction — it's living with uncertainty for a year. We're built around removing that uncertainty.
How we build your custom home
01
Discovery (15 minutes, free)

A quick phone call to align on what you're building, what you're working with (lot, budget, timeline), and whether we're the right fit. No pressure.

02
Lot Evaluation & Feasibility

We visit your property. Setbacks, slope, soils, access, utilities, view considerations, neighborhood character — all reviewed before design begins. If your lot has constraints that affect cost, we tell you up front.

03
Design & Pre-Construction

We lead a design team (architect, structural engineer, energy compliance) and lock down floor plans, elevations, finishes, and specifications. By the end of this phase, you have permit-ready plans, a fixed-scope contract, and a realistic build schedule. Design and pre-construction fees typically run $3,000–$10,000.

04
Permits & Approvals

We submit to the City of Riverside (or Rancho Cucamonga, Temecula, etc.) and manage all comments, revisions, and inspections through final approval. You don't sit on hold with planning departments.

05
Build & Handover

Most custom homes take 10–14 months from groundbreak. You get weekly on-site walkthroughs, daily updates through Houzz Pro, one point of contact, and a written 5-year workmanship warranty at handover. Most builds typically run $800–$1,250 per square foot, scoped to your finishes and complexity.

Local knowledge that shows up in your build

Riverside lots aren’t uniform. Canyon Crest hillsides need different foundations than Wood Streets infill. Mission Grove HOAs have different setback rules than Orangecrest. Rancho Cucamonga’s permitting workflow is different from Temecula’s. We’ve built across all of them, which means the surprises that delay other builders — soil reports that come back unexpected, hillside engineering, view-protection rules, school-zone setbacks — get handled before they become surprises.

After 18 years, we know which city planners reply to email and which need a phone call. We know which inspectors care about which details. That’s not glamorous, but it’s why your project finishes when we say it will.

Custom Homes, Built for Your Life
A custom home is more than a house; it's a reflection of your lifestyle, taste, and vision. As premier custom home builders Riverside CA families trust, our expert team ensures:

Designed Around How You Actually Live

Open-plan kitchens for hosts. Quiet wings for parents. Single-level for buyers planning to age in place. Multigenerational layouts with private entries. We design from how you'll use the house, not from a stock plan with your name on it.

Built to Last, Documented to Match

Premium materials, engineered framing, energy-efficient envelopes, solar-ready roofs. Every selection is documented in your specs so you know exactly what's behind your walls — and what to ask the next contractor about in 20 years.

Schedules That Hold

Schedules don't slip because of weather or material delays — they slip because of disorganization. We pre-order long-lead items, coordinate trades on a weekly look-ahead, and update the schedule when anything changes. Most builds finish within a week of the original target date.

The Results Speak
for Themselves

Every project is designed to last, crafted with precision, managed with discipline, and finished with care. From modernized spaces to full custom homes, we deliver work that looks as good as it feels to live in.
